Join The Omaha Theater Company at The Rose Theater in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, February 8th, 2014 8:30-5:30 p.m. for a one-day exploration of innovative New Play Development models for young audiences. TYA professionals, undergraduate students, graduate students, and theater artists from around the region are invited to attend. Learn how the Omaha Theater Company, The Coterie Theater in Kansas City, the University of Northern Iowa Theater Department, and more are taking a creative approach to bringing new plays into the TYA field.
Jeff Church from The Coterie will present about The Coterie Lab for New Family Musicals which helps accomplished Broadway composers develop their musicals for the theater for young audiences field.
Gretta Berghammer from the University of Northern Iowa Department of Theatre will present a student devising process for Playful Inventions, a sensory friendly performance piece designed for youth on the autism spectrum.
Conference attendees will also attend a performance of The Grocer's Goblin & The Little Mermaid, a multi-media, puppetry-based production of two classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales. A discussion of Omaha Theater Company's model and collaborative process will follow the performance.
